“Through painting I am able to connect with something greater than what is visible - a deep, immersive and transformative state existing within all matter.
My art is ultimately a reflection of my inner self as I seek to understand and interpret my environment. Each painting I produce is the result of a meditative connection with my subject, as I attempt to channel its essence through paint.
I hope that my work serves as an example of reflection and appreciation toward our natural world”
Bio
John Richer is an artist based in Sheffield, Ontario. His introduction to art began when he was a child, painting alongside his grandmother who was an artist. They would often walk the fields and woods on her farm together, surrounded by creative inspiration.
John studied English Literature at York University from 1992-1995 and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree. He then attended Mohawk College between 1995-1997, earning an honours diploma in Graphic Design & Illustration.
From 1997-2011 he pursued a career as a Graphic Designer with a number of print companies, creating and preparing print work for a wide variety of clientele.
In 2008, he and his family had the opportunity to purchase his grandparents’ farm where he spent much of his childhood growing up. John began small scale farming, rediscovering his connection with the land and transitioned back to creating fine art.
Energetically intense and emotive, John’s paintings exude a sense of potent vibrancy beneath their realistic surface. His work is influenced by the gradual changes he sees within Nature - striving to capture and channel that same energy into his work.
Today John pays homage to Nature through art, continually inspired by its infinite level of transformative beauty.
His work has received numerous awards in exhibitions and can be found in various private collections throughout Southern Ontario.
